Vintage Guitar Magazine – “Elana James” Review
February 11th, 2007 at 7:15pmWestern Swing was first created in the late 1930’s by a generation of country players who adapted string bands to play big band jazz. On Elana James’ first solo disc she demonstrates that this musical genre’s vibrancy hasn’t faded in the intervening years. Backed by a solid band that includes guitarists Dave Biller and Luke Hill as well as western swing fiddle master Johnny Gimble, James covers material by Dylan, Hubie Blake, Duke Ellington, as well as seven original tunes. Great stuff!

I really love this photo. These moments are irreplaceable. We have so many pictures and videos of my dad with the many musicians and singers that he played with, and so many of them are lifelong friends. Just like those smiles we see on you and your mom, we get to see in those shots we have. Such a clear reminder of all the fun and laughs we had over the many years. There is nothing else like music to bring us all together.

FOR MY BIRTHDAY & REGARDING MY MOM--Iād like to thank every single one of you who has sent such thoughtful and beautiful notes to me here and through all the other portals. Today is the 37th day. Your messages have meant so very much to me and have been powerful emotional and loving support. I saw you with Hot Club of Cowtown in East Lansing several years ago. As I recall, your mom was in the audience that day. I am sorry for your loss.
